Doctors are God" proved in CMC by saving a 1 day old baby girl.

 

Ludhiana (The Punjab News  HS KITTY)  On 25 February 2023, few hours old new born girl child born by LSCS outside hospital. Baby started having breathing difficulty after birth and was referred to Christian medical college and hospital.  In CMC casualty on examination child was diagnosed to have trachea-esophageal fistula, it is rare condition in which food pipe is not formed and some part is connected to wind pipe. Child was put on ventilator support and was shifted to neonatal ICU. Child underwent emergency surgery to repair the defect by the team of doctors of Pediatric surgery which include Dr. Vishal Michael, Dr. Ishan and Dr. Sumit along with collaborative efforts by team of anesthesia headed by Dr. Melchisedec Singh. After surgery child was shifted to neonatal ICU kept under care of Dr. Gurmeet Choudhry.  Gradually child was weaned off ventilator support and was breathing normally, started taking milk orally. Child was discharged from hospital 14 days after surgery in satisfactory condition.  Hospital bill was paid by Rock foundation (NGO)

Further Director Dr William Bhatti said that CMC has been providing quality medical services and education for more than 128 years. He appreciated all the departments  involved in this cause and motivated them to continue it further.

32 year old male from West Bengal  was given a new lease of life by the Department of Plastic Surgery at CMCH Ludhiana after they removed a 22 kg tumor from the his lower limb. Patient who hails from Bengal visited multiple doctors over the years for the tumor but all of them had refused to operate on his leg fearing the  complications and high mortality rate involved in the surgical excision








 . Patient approached CMCH Ludhiana in May this year , following which he was evaluated by the Department of Plastic surgery. In view of poor nutritional status and low haemoglobin , Patient was given multiple blood transfusions and steps were taken for adequate nourishment pre operatively . Following this , Head of Department  Plastic Surgery Dr. Pinki Pargal along with her team of surgeons Dr. Eldo Varkey George , Dr. Jharna Verma, Dr. Pallavi Nigam and Anaesthetist, Dr. Narjeet Kaur took on the challenge and successfully excised the large mass. Post operatively, the patient recovered without any complications. Histopathological examination of the excised mass, revealed a highly aggressive rare tumour.


 The surgeons expressed how it was satisfying to see the patient who was brought to them in a wheelchair, walk out of their ward with a smile on his face towards a healthier and happier life.
